According to the History of Veterans Day, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 1918, an armistice between the Allied nations and Germany came into the major effect. The Armistice Day was celebrated for very first time on November 11th, 1919. In that same year, President Wilson proclaimed the day should be a solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the service of the country. Ford signed Public Law 94-97(1975), which stated that Veterans Day would again be commemorated on November 11 from the year 1978 onwards and hence Veterans Day is still observed on November 11th.
